WHY do you think it isn’t working? More often than not one who claims their networking isn't working is usually not "working it." “Getting out there” is just the first step… making the most of being “out there” is the critical step.
As with any marketing campaign, "The 5 Critical Elements" apply to networking, too... 1) To Whom? Are you networking with your target audience and/or strategic alliances?
2) For What Reason? Are you seeking new business? To reconnect? To gain referrals?
3) By What Method? Yes, networking is the method... but while networking "what method" are you using to achieve "for what reason"? Are you LISTENING as well as talking?
4) With What Message? And when you ARE talking, what are you saying to those prospects and strategic alliances? Are you asking qualifying questions? Are you asking for referrals?
5) How Often? Are you making an effort to be consistent with the right* networking? (*See #1) And most importantly...
how often are you communicating with those you've met AFTER the networking event? |
