First, remember that not every opportunity to advertise is a GOOD opportunity for YOUR business... Secondly, ASK questions... <> What is the "reach"? Who is the audience? <> Is their target audience YOUR target audience? <> Does the medium match your model? (e.g. Is the publication geared to Businesses? Consumers? Both?) <> Is the investment feasible? What is the expected return? And the question most often NEVER asked is... <> What are THEY doing to advertise THEIR publication, station, program, etc.?! Many advertising sales executives will tell you that the opportunity is good for you... they may give examples of success stories of other businesses who have advertised in their publication, on their program, on their station, etc. And they MAY be right... OR they may just be trying to meet their sales goals. Truly assess the opportunity objectively to make an educated and financially-responsible decision. - OR - If you're still uncertain, ask your marketing director or marketing agency to review the opportunity for you.
