TRUTH or MYTH? Every business should have a corporate identity.
TRUTH! Your corporate identity, comprised of a logo, specific font(s), colors and possibly a tagline, is the face of your business. It is how your prospects and clients will recognize you. Presenting your business in the marketplace without a solid corporate identity is like going to an event with a brown paper bag over your head... no one will know you... and more importantly, no one will remember you... unless of course you are in the business of selling brown paper bag disguises.
Once your identity is established, be consistent. Stick with the same colors and fonts. Stick with the logo. Use it in all marketing campaigns and business communications. But remember... in marketing, your corporate identity is NOT a headline. Don't lead with your logo/business name... close with it... it's your "signature".
And finally, an answer to a question we hear a lot... "Is it OK to update a logo or re-brand?"... as usual the answer is "it depends". How established is your brand? Will a brand refresh confuse your target or give them the perception that you are "keeping up with the times" or "being innovative"? What's the purpose of changing the identity of the business?
Does your business' image properly represent you in the marketplace? Is it time to have your marketing materials and corporate identity professionally reviewed?
