TRUTH or MYTH?
It is easier and less costly to keep a client
you have already done business with
than it is to seek and gain a new one.


TRUTH!
Think about it. You've done business with a client. They know you. You have already established a business relationship with them. So it's much easier to "keep them" (i.e. maintain the relationship and continue selling to them) than it is to convince someone who doesn't know you or hasn't done business with you to engage your services or buy your product.

"Keeping clients" is also less costly because someone with whom you have a relationship does not need the statistical "7 impressions" before they remember you... therefore your marketing to them does not need to be as aggressive.

Does that mean you shouldn't market to your existing clients? Absolutely NOT! Marketing to your existing clients with a strategic client retention campaign maintains "TOMA" (top-of-mind-awareness). You want them to remember you when it's time to buy again. You want them to know you appreciate their business and want to keep in touch with them. You want to keep them... not loose them to the competition.
